Bodypaint Gallery

Video!

This is one of my first projects: a stop motion video with Nathaniel, which led to our dear friendship. The idea came as I was people-watching on a train in New York and saw a handsome man. My artists’ eye started deconstructing what I liked in his face, thinking about how to celebrate it with paint.

When I returned to Santa Cruz, I not only had to find and convince some handsome man to do this crazy project with me, I also had to figure out how to pull it off (with lots of help: see credits)

Sculpture Inspiration

When I first saw this sculpture at the spectacular Hawthorne Gallery in Big Sur, I said “Oh, that would look so cool on a person!” Eventually I got permission to bring model Emmy Mitchell and photographer Devi Pride down there for a day of painting and a night of photography with two of Michael Gustavson’s creations.

Do you think we have fun together?!

One for Your Wall?

Many of the images here can be custom printed, on canvas (my favorite!) or photo paper, to add amazingness to your home or business.

Images can be cropped for an abstract statement too.

I can help you figure out sizing for your space if you like.

The Chakra Project

In Hindu tradition, the chakras are particular energetic and spiritual centers in our bodies. They relate to particular concepts, and have associated colors and placement. I chose yoga poses which open the particular areas.

This was a collaboration with Be the Change yoga studio in San Jose; Local Color arts organization; and the Human Art Collective, a group of bodypainters, models and photographers in the SF Bay Area. Volunteers from the yoga studio helped paint.

The Couple painting sprang from photographer Ronald Nelson’s thoughts. He felt that in real life, the chakra energies mingle, so we symbolized that with the various colors and currents of moving butterflies. Mural & canvas painter Francisco Ramirez painted Jason for me. Check out his other fantastic artwork, and Ron’s amazing photography too.
